Fourteen people were injured in two accidents on the N1 between the Van Der Bijl and the Randfontein off ramps at around 2.30am on Sunday morning December 22, 2013. Reports indicate that a truck and a car collided, leaving two people seriously injured, while paramedics were working on the patients a taxi slammed into the rear of another truck while driving in the opposite direction.
Netcare 911 paramedics raced across to assist the injured commuters and found that two of them were trapped in the twisted frame of the taxi. While firemen used the Jaws of Life to free the injured medics worked fervently to stabilize all the injured.
After the injured were treated on scene and the trapped victims were extricated from the taxi, paramedics transported the twelve commuters of who three were seriously injured and nine that escaped with minor injuries, to a nearby hospital for the care that they required.
The two patients from the initial accident was stabilized on scene and then transported to a local hospital for the care that they required.
