Two suspects were arrested and one lost his life. The arrest of the suspects which took place on Saturday in Eastpark Alexandra, north of Johannesburg at around 2pm came out successfully with a recovery on unlicensed firearm. The recovery of unlicensed weapons from the hands of criminals means innocent lives are saved as firearm is commonly used in business robberies and other crimes.

It is alleged that suspects aged between 30 and 32 robbed a house in Helderkruin, Roodepoort earlier in the day. During the house robbery a VW Golf GTI was also robbed and turned into a gate away vehicle.

The stolen vehicle which has tracking system was monitored during the search of the suspected and spotted travelling on the London Road, Alexandra. Police followed the vehicle which later sped off leading to a chase issued between the police and the fleeing suspects.

Realizing that police were already on their tail, the suspects abandoned the vehicle at Corner London and Lenin roads in Alexandra and fled on foot towards Eastpark.

Members of the TRT who were also on the lookout saw the fleeing suspects and gave chase. One of the suspects knew that his road had come to an end and hid into a nearby house. With no luck on his side the onlookers who were puzzled by the police sirens and blue lights during the chase alerted the police on the whereabouts of the suspects.

It is alleged that when he saw the police approaching the house he started shooting at the police and they returned fire. The suspect was fatally wounded during the exchange of gunfire. The other two suspects were arrested as well.

Two laptops, a tablet, a Blackberry phone, a Sony camera, a Russell Hobbs coffee maker, cutlery, handbag with items inside, a flat screen TV were found in an abandoned car. A 9mm pistol and a fake firearm were also recovered.

The suspects will soon appear at the Roodepoort Magistrate Court on charges of attempted murder, house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and an inquest docket has been opened and Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) was also informed
