Steve and Edith Ackerman are still in the process of trying to rebuild their Fourways home after it was struck by lightning which started a raging fire that swept through the house on Saturday night December 14, 2013.
By the time the Fire Department arrived on scene the house was almost fully engulfed in flames, firemen worked tirelessly for nearly four hours to put out the flames. Fortunately all the pets were rescued from the home and unharmed.
The entire house and garage were destroyed by the fire; the only part that was not burned or damaged was the cottage and half of the main bedroom.
Since that awful night, there has been yet another disaster at the Ackerman’s home, a water main burst in the garden and flooded the cottage. Joburg Water was only able to attend to the problem 15 hours later, resulting in severe water damage to the only section of the home that wasn’t affected by the fire.
We once again appeal to the public for any kind of donations towards rebuilding the family’s home.
If you have any unwanted furniture, appliances, curtains, bedding, tables, chairs, building materials such as bricks, glass for windows, door frames, garage doors, security gates or tiles etc. please contact Edith on 083-230-0344.
