The excitement is intensifying for the arrival of Bovim Ballet’s dancers in Johannesburg, ahead of their season at the Joburg Theatre from 26th March – 13 April 2014 – just 2 short weeks for Joburg audiences to wait until they get to see the production that’s already enjoyed 2 sold out seasons in Cape Town previously in 2012.
An added bonus is the news that vocalists Cito and Angela Kilian have recorded the Queen At The Ballet showstopper Barcelona (first made famous by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé) both as a Music Video and an audio recording for radio use, facilitated by The CoLab Network and now available for public viewing/listening at:

Says Collett Dawson, co-director of The CoLab Network and Associate Producer of Queen At The Ballet; “Every single time this number is performed, it brings the house down – and in Queen At The Ballet even more so; where Cito and Angela will soon be singing it alongside 24 of South Africa’s finest dancers; the entire cast providing the show’s climax”.
Dawson continues; “When making plans for Queen At The Ballet’s season in Joburg, we felt making a music video was a no-brainer; besides the power of Freddie Mercury’s music, we have two leading Jozi vocalists also being part of this stellar cast. Barcelona is a song that seems to touch everyone in some form or another, so we felt it would be ideal to produce this music video to further encourage people to go through to the Joburg Theatre to see the production, where their voices will add to the exquisite choreography provided by the Sean Bovim for his dancers. This also highlights the sentiment – this isn’t your regular, conventional ballet!”
Queen at the Ballet uses the athleticism of rock ballet en-pointe in a high impact production that will entertain people of all ages.
The show is packed with high artistic standards, innovative & original choreography, and powerful performances from the strong cast of dancers.
Queen at the Ballet captures the story of the great pretender, Freddie Mercury, told through the medium of dance. Set to over 20 of his greatest hits (including ‘Who wants to live forever’, ‘Another one bites the dust’, ‘We Will Rock You’ ‘Love of My Life’, ‘Killer Queen’ and many more), viewers are taken on a journey through the fascinating life of one of the world’s greatest singers. The audience can expect to see tender pas de deux interspersed with exciting rocking group numbers performed by over 20 of South Africa’s top dancing talents.
Michael Hankinson’s exquisite, recorded orchestral arrangements of Queen’s music are further enhanced by the live gymnastic vocals of Johannesburg’s renowned rocker Cito (WONDERboom & Jesus Christ Superstar fame), Daniel Fisher (Fiddler on the Roof) and Angela Kilian (Sunset Boulevard & Evita) makes a special guest appearance singing ‘Barcelona’ with Cito.
