Take the family for a drive into the countryside and visit the picturesque Ngwenya Glass Village  renowned for its glassblowing and beautiful glassware.  Two excellent restaurants  and a lot of emphasis on children’s activities make it an ideal choice for a weekend out.   Vulindlela is the bistro which opened last year. It has become very popular, with visitors streaming in from all over Gauteng to try the delicious food.  Gilroy’sbrewery with its beer tasting, pubfare and entertainment has been a huge drawcard for many years.

The Village is an ideal place for business lunches, ladies- get-togethers, workshops, corporate events and team building activities.

Ngwenya is very safe for children and the little ones are really well catered for. Jocks Studio arranges all sorts of entertainment including candle making  & decorating and sand art.   The Jungle Gym area is situated close to the bistro and parents can keep a watchful eye…..There are always new activities being devised   e.g. Margie from the art gallery has recently started arranging fun parties for children and these are proving to be a great success.  She has also opened a boutique adjacent to the gallery which stocks clothes and toys for children.

It is an absolute joy to wander through the quaint shops which surround the Village green . There is a huge variety of things to see and buy. The glass showroom with its gleaming glassware and trophies is an absolute must, as is the skills centre Seeds of Africa with its quality goods. The Ngwenya Glass Art Gallery showcases  lovely art works and decor and Objets dÁrt Africain has a striking array of African curios and masks on display. Hot Wired produces a stunning range of wire and beadwork pieces.

Shops that   have opened recently are: A Word or Two which offers interesting  & unusual gifts of all kinds; Moonstruck which imports goods from Bali and Indonesia and  Bridal Village specialising in  bridal & floral services. Lyn, who manages Bridal Village, ran a successful Wedding  Faire at Ngwenya in early March and is planning to do this on a regular basis .

All round, an ideal place to visit and a lovely way to spend the day!
