LONEHILL / BEVERLEY / PINESLOPES
16 April 2014: Dumping on Main Road
The Fidelity Supervisor noticed a truck dumping on the side of the road. The truck was stopped and Metro Police were contacted to assist. The truck driver was issued with R 2000.00 in fines and the truck impounded due to its non-roadworthy state. Yet another success in the fight against illegal dumping. The personal involvement of one of the LRA security Directors further ensured that the working relationship with Metro was upheld.

15 April 2014: Miscellaneous
A resident of a road closure visited the park with her children. They noticed a man in the park changing his clothes. She alerted the access officer. A reaction vehicle attended to the situation.

16 April 2014: Attempted Hijacking, Tobago Place, Lonehill
A Silver Volvo with four men followed a resident home. When she stopped in her driveway they parked behind her, got out of their vehicle and pointed a firearm at her. They demanded the keys to her vehicle, she resisted, screamed and hooted and did not hand over the keys. The foot patroller noticed the suspicious vehicle, motioned toward it and whereupon the criminals fled the scene.

12 April 2014: House Robbery, Bryntirrold Drive, Lonehill
After returning home from walking her dogs, she was woken up by two suspects in the lounge, both armed. She was subsequently tied up in the bedroom while they ransacked the house. The criminals fled the scene in the resident’s vehicle and exited the complex with the use of the access control remote that was left in the vehicle.

SECURITY TIPS FOR THE HOLIDAYS:

Before you head for the holidays:

1. Leave a spare set of keys, as well as a contact address and phone number, with a trusted neighbour in case of an emergency, such as a fire, a burglary or needing to re-set your alarm.

2. Test your alarm with your security company and notify them that you are going away.

3. Lock the mains box outside your property.

4. Appoint a reputable house sitting service to keep tabs on your property and to switch on lights, feed pets, clear post boxes of mail, water plants and put out rubbish bins on collection day – and to let you or your neighbour know if there’s a problem.

5. Immobilise any vehicles you leave behind.

6. Make sure your tracker or similar device is working – if you had your car serviced recently the device may have been disabled – this will impact negatively on your insurance cover.

7. Secure your home with automatic light switch mechanisms, alarm sensors on easily accessible windows, expanding security gates in doorways, a secure gate motor, movement sensor lights near doors and barred windows.

Ensure valuable, important documents and weapons are locked in a safe and the key is taken with you.
