SAPS donates food parcels to widows and orphans of the fallen heroes and heroines

SAPS Gauteng hosted the quarterly Project 20 event at the Provincial Head Office in Parktown on Friday, 20 June 2014 where they handed over food parcels including fruits, vegetables and household groceries to the families of the late SAPS members.

During her welcoming address, Brigadier Janet Basson, Provincial Head for Personnel Management said Project 20 event is for widowers, widows and children of the deceased SAPS members who died in the line of duty.

Pick n Pay and Joburg Market came on board in support of the Project 20 initiative by donating food parcels to the families of the fallen heroes and heroines

Mr Glen Muller from Pick n Pay comforted the families and encouraged them to accept all the support offered to them by SAPS and sponsors in this initiative. He referred to Matthews 5:4 that reads “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”.

Mr Mpho Mukwevho from Joburg Market “This is a memorable event that for some it brings back sad flashes of losing loved one”. He encouraged them to have faith in God and celebrate the lives of the fallen heroes and heroines.

Mrs Marjorie Tau, Kagiso Widows and Widowers Support group “We would like to send our sincere gratitude to South African Police Service and all the sponsors for looking after people in need like us. We appreciate the love and support you are giving us on our daily lives challenges. May God bless you and may He continue to touch your giving hearts without expecting anything in return”.

Project 20 is an initiative that started in 2009 by Service Termination department when they realised that families of the deceased had monetary challenges when waiting for finalisation of service termination process which takes time.

Present amongst the guests was the Gauteng CPF Chairperson Mr Andy Mashaile and Brigadier Assegai the Provincial Human Resource Utilization.
