A vibrant celebration of Dance
The Lyric at Gold Reef City – 6 and 7 September 2014
September 2014 will mark Jazzy Masala’s 6th annual production as they stage Badtamasti at The Lyric at Gold Reef City on 6th & 7th September 2014 for 2 shows only.
Following the fusion of gumboot, gungroo and tap accompanied by pure classical Indian music in Footprints of a Dancer in 2013 which proved to be a huge audience hit, Jazzy Masala now brings the Jozi public Badtamasti.
The exhilaration builds around the theme of Masti aur Maza (frolicking fun) in Jozi. Preparations for the new production are underway with talented dancers working tirelessly to bring the best to stage.
The inspiration for this production lies in the title itself “Badtamasti”… Masti… having fun with and through dance and adding a touch of spice to our flamboyant, beautiful and rich culture. With over 80 dancers involved in the production, the show promises to be sizzling, colourful, fun and pulsating! It will encompass a variety of genres weaved together to create new ways of movement which Versha Magan has become legendary for.
Bollywood at its finest, Classical Kathak as its base, Contemporary and Jazz fused together with Latin and hip-hop just to name a few. Jazzy Masala has become a household name and aims to bring you something fresh and creative every year. This production is jam packed with endless entertainment, great fun and absolute enjoyment! On this journey Jazzy Masala prides in bringing you each year something fresh, original and innovative to The Lyric Theatre.

PREVIOUS PRODUCTIONS
Footprints of a Dancer, staged in 2013, was an experimental piece and a first in South Africa, received tremendous applause and praise. Footprints of a Dancer merged centuries old traditional and classical dance styles by the ground-breaking amalgamation of Kathak, a north Indian dance form, with the classical south Indian dance form of Bharata Natyam. It went even further to fuse Bharata Natyam with modern day contemporary dance, again a first in South Africa. On this journey Jazzy Masala prides in bringing you each year something fresh, original and innovative to The Lyric Theatre.
Other past annual productions of Jazzy Masala were Naach (2009) at the Alexander Theatre, Dil Se (2010) at The Theatre Complex followed by Desh Ya Pardes (2010), Armaan (2011) and Rang (2012).
Badtamsti is a proudly Jazzy Masala Creative production.
