This afternoon, Wednesday December 4, 2013 just after 5pm, EMER-G-MED’s M07, V01, RV06, A09 and I01 as well as other services responded to reports of a serious collision on the corners of Katherine and Grayston, in Sandton CBD.
Paramedics arrived on scene to find that a car had collided into the side of a taxi, causing the taxi to roll – landing back on it’s wheels.
Allegedly the cars brakes had failed, resulting in the car going through two red traffic lights and then colliding with the taxi at a high-speed and in the process knocking over a pedestrian.
Paramedics assessed the scene finding that a total of 14 people had been injured, four of which – the driver of the car, the pedestrian and two people from the taxi – sustained serious injuries including possible spinal injuries and multiple cuts and bruises.
Paramedics stabilized and treated the injured on scene, before they were transported to various hospitals in the area.
EMER-G-MED transported a total of nine patient and the other five were transported by other services.
JMPD were on scene to investigate the events leading up to the collision.
