JAMES ALEXANDER
and JESSICA FRIEDAN

Beautifully written and exquisitely crafted, BASH, a dark triptych, is one of 2014’s unmissable shows! Provocative and fresh from a highly acclaimed run at the Standard Bank National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, BASH opens at Sandton’s Auto & General Theatre on the Square from 9th September.

Daphne Kuhn is very proud to present American playwright Neil Labute’s controversial, gripping and lauded work, with tour de force performances by the South African cast – Daniel Janks, Ashleigh Harvey, James Alexander and Jessica Freidan – with direction by Megan Willson.

The themes explored in BASH profoundly resonate with issues facing South Africans today: masculinity; job loss; homophobia; appearances versus reality; revenge; privilege.
Who are the people behind these crimes? Are they in fact, one of us?
Part of families or even ourselves?

BASH presents the audience with three disturbing one-act plays. The characters are the kind of people you meet every day – ordinary – except for the creeping horror of what they have to say. We are introduced to a businessman; a glamorous pair of college lovers and a young mother. The Auto & General Theatre on the Square, by arrangement with Wider Ground Drama Collective is excited to provide South Africans with the opportunity to experience mesmerising pure theatre and the chance to look at our own darkness.
