The following info may be of interest to those who may be planning to enjoy Vaal River before the weekend. There have been some heavy rains over the few weeks and this has impacted on the flow and levels in the Vaal.
Francois Van Wyk from Rand Water reported the following: The Formula 2 Boating Event which he refers to below, is going to be held at Abrahmsrus. The idea is to let water out now, so that the event can still carry on – on Saturday.
The information below regarding the flows and release of water are important for those of us who operate Commercial Vessels on the Vaal.
* Vaal Dam has reached 82% early this morning, the inflow into the dam is 1 400 cubic meters per second. * As the Dam was at 75% on Tuesday, this means that the dam can reach 100% by Sunday if the rate of inflow continues * An international F2 boating event will take place on the Barrage on Saturday, and to avoid last minute opening of sluice gates that will certainly cancel this event, the following has been decided by DWA;
o 3 gates at Vaal Dam were opened on December 12 between (8:00 and 12:00)
o This will allowed the situation to stabilise before the weekend.
o The gates were closed today Friday December 13, 2013.
o From Friday evening the Barrage will only release whatever is being delivered via the tributaries (currently 200cumec already).
