The Gauteng Police have arrested two constables aged 31 and 36 years old respectively for Business Robbery. On Wednesday Morning February 26, 2014, at approximately 10.40am, police officers from Garsfontein SAPS were called to a Business premises, Nashua Mobile, in the Moreleta Plaza complex. It was alleged that five suspects entered the premises, two armed with firearms and forced the owner to open the safe. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cell phones.
The officers followed up information received and later arrested two constables at a house in Nelmapius Drive. The members are attached to the Railway Policing Unit, Dennepoort. All the stolen cell phones and laptops were recovered. Officers also confiscated R16 000 in cash as well as three firearms that will be sent for ballistic tests.
“Corruption and Criminality within the service will not be tolerated and I have instructed an immediate investigation into the matter. The investigation will be prioritised. Notices of contemplated suspension will be served on the members while in custody and I have instituted an urgent internal investigation which is to run concurrently with the criminal investigation”, said Lt Gen Lesetja Mothiba.
The two suspects will appear in the Pretoria Magistrates court on Friday on two charges of Business Robbery. Investigation into the matter continues and three suspects are still sought.
