The Gauteng Provincial Detectives continued to tighten screws on investigation of 48 cases of harmful and religious practices across the province. “In light of the Dobsonville occult related murders last week, we want to indicate that we have highly trained investigators in the province investigating these cases. In the previous three months 78 cases of enquiries reached the provincial detective for investigations with 452 people were questioned,” said Gauteng Deputy Commissioner, Major General Tebello Mosikili.
This was revealed during a media briefing on the report of the team investigating prominent cases such as the harmful Religious practices, Sexual Assault, Child Pornography and other prominent cases in the Gauteng. With support from head of Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) Major General Buthelezi, Colonel Attie Lamprecht and Lt-col Hendriek de Jager of the Occult unit, major General Mosikili explained that police will work with all the stakeholders in dealing with such crimes.

Meanwhile Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major General Tebello Mosikili was briefing members of the media; Major General Buthelezi gave an update on the FCS success with 1187 life sentences handed over to sex offenders. During the address Major General Yvonne Buthelezi explained that FCS members managed to trace suspects dealing in the production of Child Pornography movies. These syndicates involved a number of professionals, with some working as teachers, computer experts, film makers and among them a priest.
Through an investigative package called “Project Spate” originated from Canada since 2010 we have managed to trace 43 individual who are involved in the purchases of child pornography movies across the 7 provinces with 34 positively identified in the country. These include a 42-year-old suspect from Pretoria who appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court. Northern Cape was the only province which was not identified.
A network of prayer groups from different church denominations including meetings with South African Pagan Rights Alliance (SAPRA) and South African Pagan Council (SAPC) also took place to assist in the fight against occult related crimes.
Lt Colonel Hendriek de Jager, pleaded with parents to monitoring their children’s behaviour as there are many circumstances that can attract children. Although there is no clear guidance on how to see such behaviour many kids will try things they experience in life such as things they saw in the movies and practices experienced at school. The danger is when it get out of hand and they commit occult crimes,” said Lt Col hendriek de Jager.
