Come make history with us
Parkhurst now has its very own craft beer that will be developed by the community and will only be served in Parkhurst. It’s called 11 Shillings Parkhurst Ale and it takes the heritage of Parkhurst as serious as we do.
The exciting news is that Parkhurst Village have been allocated 20 spaces of their paid up members of the Association to be part of the creation process. You will be able to help assist with what it will taste like at a tasting that will be held in the coming weeks. Email us on info@parkhurst.org.za to add your name into the draw. 10 places for existing members and 10 places for new members who sign up between now and the tasting taking place soon.
‘In 1903, Mr Isidore William Schlesinger bought lot 36 of the Braamfontein Farm for ₤36,019, 11 shillings and 4 pence and the area where Parkhurst now stands was born! It was however called “New Parktown” temporarily while residents of Johannesburg got to vote on the actual new name of the suburb. How’s that for vintage crowd sourcing! Around 11 thousand entries were received.
So in the interests of heritage, history and a great back story, you get to participate yet again, 11 decades later, in picking what promises to bring joy to Parkhurst residents and visitors for another eleven decades and more, Parkhurst’s very own local Ale. Notice the number 11 popping up all the time.
