Last night there was an armed robbery at Society Eatery & Craft Bar in Fourways, corner Witkoppen and Leslie that has only been open for a few weeks.
At around 10.30pm four suspects, two armed with firearms, entered the premises and demanded everyone get down on the floor.
The suspects grabbed the guard, the manager and some of the staff members and forced them into the back where they stole an undisclosed amount of money form the safe as well as two cellphones. One shot was fired but fortunately no one sustained any injuries.
David Potter DA Ward Councillor, Ward 102 in Randburg was at Society at the time of the armed robbery. He too was told to lie down; fortunately he had a good spot to hide. He managed to call the Douglasdale SAPS sector vehicle for the area.
“Fortunately I know the police lingo and had the sector vehicle number for the area so I made a call while the suspects were still on the premises, the police understood what was going on immediately and said they were on their way”, said David Potter.
The police response was fantastic; unfortunately the suspects had already fled the scene before their arrival. It is alleged that the suspects fled in a black Kia.
“The whole thing was very calm, it interesting to see how everyone handles it, some people, duck, some run and others stand still, but all in all everyone was calm, there was no shouting or crying”, said David Potter.
David has advised that it is imperative for everyone to have sector numbers for their area and the numbers for places they frequent as you never know when you may need them. The sector vehicles are operating in every area 24/7 and often the fastest to respond due to their proximity.
