It’s only one day to go before the start of the 20th FIFA World Cup to be held in Brazil. The 64 teams will start to play for the coveted trophy on 12 June 2014, with Brazil playing against Croatia in the opening game.

In keeping with the World Cup soccer sporting spirit, the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa will be screening 11 of the games in its Flamingo Restaurant. The selected games will be screened every Saturday and Sunday nights, and will include the opening game on Thursday, 12 June 2014.

This is the first time that the National Zoo will be screening live World Cup soccer matches.

Why not enjoy some authentic food to further indulge your senses; the zoo will be serving up a veritable feast of dishes that characterise the flavours of the teams’ countries.

Entertainment includes DJs, promotions, activities and more to add to the festive atmosphere. Even the little ones are catered for; a children’s play area will keep the kids busy while you watch the football on our big screen.

Entrance for visitors wishing to view the games is R30.00 per person. Although no drinks will be permitted to be brought into the venue, there will be a fully-stocked cash bar available to quench your thirst.

The first games to be screened will be:

Brazil vs Croatia on 12 June 2014 at 5pm

Spain vs Netherlands on 13 June 2014 at 4pm

England vs Italy on 14 June 2014 at 6pm

Argentina vs Bosnia/ Herzogovina on 15 June 2014 at 7pm

This is a unique opportunity to view soccer in a wild setting and will undoubtedly an un-missable experience to share with both your family and friends. Further information can be obtained on our website at www.nzg.ac.za
