Thursday, 21 November 2013 around 10am – A home was broken into in Maud Street, Florida, not far from the Florida Lake. A friend arrived to check on the property when he discovered two black males inside the home. Fortunately no one was home at the time of the incident and the gentleman noticed a police van driving past, he flagged them down but it is suspected that the suspects fled in the short time that the gentleman was flagging the police van down. Florida SAPS conducted a full search but could not find the suspects.

We must thank DUNMAR Security for their assistance in securing the property even though these are not their clients, they kindly sponsored a guard for the days after the robbery and have subsequently installed remote panic buttons for the homeowners who are retired, these panic buttons have been provided at a heavily discounted rate.

Friday, 22 November 2013, early evening – BestSecure reported that a White Toyota Hilux (VSG139GP) 2.7 vvti stolen from Goldman Crossing in Florida. This shopping centre has had a number of vehicle related incidents, please be extra vigilant at this centre.

Sunday, 24 November 2013, early hours of the morning – Two dog poisonings occurred in Thistle Street, Florida.

Monday, 25 November 2013, early evening – A suspect was caught breaking into a house by community members in Bree Street, Hamberg. The suspect was chased and arrested by the community members outside the Hammerkop Bird Sanctuary in Florida Lake, further details are still sketchy.

Tuesday, 26 November 2013, mid-morning – A robbery incident took place on the corner of Cygnet and Pelican Street in Florida Lake. The vehicle used was a dark brown Nissan Almera with 5 male occupants, all heavily armed. It is suspected they may be involved in other incidents.

There is a drastic increase in housebreaking and house robbery cases. The house robbery starts as a house breaking and then the suspects discover that the owners are in the house.

If you hear a loud noise (e.g. a loud bang) please press the panic button of your security company or phone the sector vehicles. If possible lock yourself in a room. Please do not confront these suspects as in most of the cases they are armed and become violent towards the residents.

Please sensitize all domestic workers / gardeners not to open the gate / residence for anybody who pretend to be there to do maintenance/ installation of any sort. If arrangements were made with companies, please inform your employees.

It is requested that everybody must be vigilant and on the lookout for suspicious persons/ vehicles within their suburbs. All the support are appreciated as Fridays are identified as the peak day

(Crime is double on Fridays)
