Dear reader.
We are rapidly approaching the end of 2013 and it’s once again time to reflect and time to look to the future.
The ghost of ‘billing errors past’ seems to be relentless – although the volume of billing queries has decreased, the City still seems to battle to overcome it. The chances are good that you, the reader of this letter, or someone you personally know, have been affected by one of many types of billing errors. I have literally assisted hundreds of victims of incorrect water or electricity disconnections this year. In 2014 I will be tabling a motion to at least put an end to Friday terminations, as well as further measures to curb the high frequency of incorrect terminations.
We look forward to the 2014 elections, still to be announced by the President. The DA is poised to make significant gains and the DA City of Joburg Caucus leader, Mmusi Maimane, is the Premier candidate for Gauteng. Mmusi has been crisscrossing the Province as part of his BelieveGP tour, talking to a variety of voters on issues they hold dear. It is important that every eligible voter is registered to vote. If you have relocated and need to re-register, or if you are eligible to register for the first time, you can do so at an IEC office located in several municipal buildings, or at another IEC voter registration weekend to be held in February 2014.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a blessed festive season and a prosperous new year. I hope everyone travels safely and remains vigilant.
