The Magaliessig Action Forum (MAF) has been notified through our legal representative that the venue of the Makro Appeal Hearing will be City Life Church, Capricorn Road, Lonehill East (the same venue as the 2012 City of Johannesburg Planning Committee hearing).
The hearing proceedings will officially begin with an inspection of the proposed Makro site, which will start at 9.30am on Wednesday 17 September. The site will be inspected by the Townships Board Committee (which will hear the Makro appeal), Makro personnel and advisors, the MAF Committee and advisors, and any other individuals who are registered as official objectors to the Makro appeal.
HOW YOU CAN BE INVOLVED
We request that as many of you as possible attend the appeal hearing. If you are only able to attend part of the three-day proceedings, please do so. Your presence will continue to reinforce the message that we do not support the development of Makro stores in residential areas.
Should you be able to attend the first part of the hearing on Wednesday 17 September, we request that you be in your seats at the City Life Church venue no later than 12noon. We understand that Makro will not supply refreshments on this occasion and request that you bring your own sandwiches and water, etc.
Please be advised that unless you are a registered objector, you may not actively participate in the hearing, although you may attend (and we encourage you to do so to demonstrate that the community is still opposed to the idea of a Makro superstore in Magaliessig).
The hearing is expected to take place over three days, and we encourage you to attend as often and as long as you can during this period. MAF will keep the community updated as the hearing progresses. Please keep an eye on our website, www.magaliessig.co.za.
